NITE CLUB 2008

Posted on Apr 15th, 2008 by Morgan : the friend Morgan
Serotonin Rush
so my school does this sort of talent show called Nite Club and this years was simply amazing......it was basically a concert of all the bands from my school...with te exception of two dance acts...but it was sweet....my friends and i formed a band, Serotonin Rush (pictured at the right), and we can be seen on YouTube at http://youtube.com/watch?v=Jj1B6MA-Uv4 if you want to check it out...along with various other acts that i have posted...just type in "CG Nite Club 08" or next to the movie, you can see "More from:...." and just pick another movie i have posted. i strongly encourage each and everyone of you to check them out, especially The Band Formerly Known as: Reptar! and also the Terry Nelligan Band, (at least, once i have TNB online) they are very talented, along with Space Canoe, Channel 31, Oakenshield, and Genetic Mistake. i also love Chupacabra Curb Stomp and Falling Slowly. but anyways...check it out, and give me your feedback......

also, i would like to ask all of you out there a question to ponder and/or respond to. i think that as i have grown into a more unique person, i have been more capable to appreciate the uniqueness of others....have you? i know people who like what they like and they cant really appreciate any other art forms out there....and while i am not usually into music such as those featured on YouTube like Oakenshield or Channel 31, i am able to appreciate it and respect those who have created it because it is their passion and it is obvious that they truly love it. do you think that those who are not open to new ideas or ways of expressing yourself are closeminded, or just underexposed? is it a bad thing to believe that the only good things out there are the things that you like? im curious about this.......

i truly love working!

Posted on Mar 28th, 2008 by Morgan : the friend Morgan
ok, so maybe that statement is a little extreme....i dont LOVE working, persay, but i love my job!

i recently obtained a job as a host at outback...omg, i love it! the people are so much fun, and i am always busy!!! ok, ok, i know there are alot of you out there thinking "what??? ALWAYS busy!!! what a drag!" but its the truth!! i have worked 4 days in a row, tues, wed, thurs, and now fri, but i am so happy to do it! the pay is great, and to be honest, compared to my last job, i am having fun! the only dull moments are when you are all by yourself, which rarely happens!

at my old job, i filed, worked on the computer, took calls, made calls...the generic boring office job...i was there for over a year, and after awhile, there was nothing for me to do anymore!! i would go in some days and they would send me home because there was no work for me! i hated it!! i mean, i loved my bosses and coworkers, but truth betold, they were all older than me and we really had nothing in common.....

......on the other hand, now, i am working with kids of my own age...people i can easily talk to!! and there is always something for me to do, be it do a bathroom check, refill the crayon box, open the door, seat tables...etc!! and i realy like it!!!

i was reading an article in my grandmas daily paper a couple weeks ago and it got me to thinking....it was one of those Dear Abby's...at least thats what we have here in Chicago, i dont know, in WI it was something like Dear Billy lol but anyways, the writer was upset because her employees (teenagers) wanted nothing to do with work or anything...but she couldnt afford to lose them....basically, she was discouraged because of the lack of motivation and work ethic that today's teens have....
and of course i can understand....some of the kids at my work dont want to be there and they basically just take up space, but i really do want to be there....i NEED the money for college, i LIKE working there, i WANT to work, and i think todays society is kind of lazy...

we dont instill a sense of pride for a job well done in our kids anymore....everything is a chore and we all just want to go out and play and have fun and have no responsibilities whatsoever! it's sad and i truly hope that something changes soon or we are all in big trouble in the future...

thats all for now, ive got to go to work...later!

What is your first memory?

Posted on Jan 28th, 2008 by Morgan : the friend Morgan
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for January 28, 2008:

i think my first memory would have to have been when my mom, dad, little brother(at that time, there was only one of them....the good old days :)) and i lived in a raised ranch and i think i was a little over one year-old. my brother was in his walker-thing and the doorbell rang, my mom went down the stairs to open the door and she didnt close the baby gate....well, tommy scooted to the edge of the steps and toppled down about 5? stairs and hit his head on the linoleum floor at the bottom. he turned out to be fine (though to this day has fear of stairs and baby walkers...jk lol) but i think the reason why i remember this so vividly was because it was so traumatic, i was so afraid that my little "doctor" was hurt!

i also remember naming my teddy bear after the boy on Barney named Michael...he was the tall blonde one...i thought he was so cute.....i think i was about three!!! haha i guess girls really do mature faster these days! :) anyways, me and my "Michael Bear", as i called him, were inseparable, and i still have him, 16 years later!

the next memory i have is when we were building our house when i was about 2 1/2 and i met my new neighbors, a girl a year older than i and a boy a year younger, and i remember feeling really lucky to have such cool neighbors because she had jasmine sandals, (like jasmine from aladdin), and aladdin was my favorite movie...i was so envious!!!

i like this prompt!!! it's so fun thinking about all the memories we have as children!!!

the newest "f-word"???

Posted on Jan 17th, 2008 by Morgan : the friend Morgan

i just got my feb. issue of "CosmoGirl!" and am kind of...well, i dont know exactly what the word would be to describe how i feel right now.....

the front page proclaims the heading of "the new f-word (and why you should use it!)"

so of course this has gotten everyone's attention and one just MUST turn to page 102 and read all about this new f-word and what it represents.....

turns out...this whole 4-page spread is all about feminism and why everyone should be a feminist......

so i'm sitting here like, "ok, i'll read the article.....after all, i dont really know EXACTLY what a feminist is....."
so i read it....and um....not to be mean, but this is a bunch of crap

i mean, i am all for equal rights for men and women, we should get equal treatment, equal pay, equal opportunity......yet, it seems to me that in the eyes of a feminist, all women should be independent and want to work for their whole lives....

sure, if thats what a woman wants to do with her life, so be it, i mean, thats a descision that only she should make for herself, but the author of this article, Leslie Bennetts, says that a woman "opting out of paid work is playing Russian roulette with your future". WHAT?!?! so in other words, being a stay at home mom is not as equally gratifying and rewarding as another job of sorts??

i dont think that this is sending a very good message to the young girls who are out there reading this...although Bennetts is proclaiming that we women need to "fight for equality", it seems that she is in turn saying that this only applies to the workforce and choices involved in payroll. if we really want to be equal, and i mean, REALLY equal, then we need to let everybody make their own choices about their future.....

as for me, all i have ever wanted to be in my life is a mom......ok, so that might sound bad....y'all are out there thinking "omg, here is this girl who seems to be slightly intelligent :) and all she want with her life is to be a mom?!?!" but to be perfectly honest (which i am trying to be since my other blog about the importance of honesty) isnt that the supposed goal of all humans?? to procreate??? lol

ok, but seriously.......
like, of course i have goals in life...like i have said a million times, i am going to college next year to pursue an education in biology to someday become a 6-12th grade biology/science teacher.....then i hope to come back to my current high school and obtain a job there......

so yeah, i have goals, but the way i see it,. there are a few different stages in ones life...the first stage being grade and high school (little kid stage), then there's college (partay! stage :) lol), and then there's career stage, then you get married...continue with the career stage...then you have kids and you take on the parental stage...

now, for me, i have been raised by parents who decided that it would be best for us as their children to have a mother who stays at home and is our primary caregiver.....especially in this day and age, with all of the things out there that can easily sweep up a kid without strong roots, i think that this was the best thing that could have ever happened to my siblings and i.... plus, my younger brother has a learnign disability, how hard would it have been for my mom to have us kids, then go back to work, and then realize that it was too much work to have to go to work and then come home and be a teacher to my brother...she would have eventually quit again.....

ok, so the point is...if you wanna go out there and pursue a career and if you can afford paying for childcare (which it EXTREMELY expensive), go ahead and do it...after all, according to feminism, thats what you should be doing....but also according to feminism, i should technically be able to make my own choice to be a stay-at-home mom if i want to...and no one should be telling me that thats a bad thing...

on a lighter note....i am leaving for D.C. on saturday...YAY!!!! i am soooo excited!!!! nervous too, though because im not really going with any of my friends.....i'll be rooming with a girl i barely know and two other girls i have never met before..oh well, i make friends easily and get along with basically everyone.....wish me luck!!!!

xoxo

These are a few of my favorite things

Posted on Jan 4th, 2008 by Morgan : the friend Morgan
ok, so i am semi-procrastinating the beginning and ending of my final paper for world lit right now, so to calm myself im going to write...ironic? i think so lol

im listening to the soundtrack from our last years musical, 42nd Street, if youve never seen one of CGs musicals....youre missing out, theyre the best in our area...........

anyways...in case you were wondering...thats what sparked this sudden need for such a random blog..................

im going to make a list of all the reasons why i love performing and my favorite things about music and my school's music department.....

1. the sound of tapping tap shoes......have you ever heard that noise?? its music to my ears

2. the comoraderie.......its a sense of belonging, the people, the fun, the parties...you have no idea!!!! most of my best friends have been made inside of those doors

3. mr. b......he is sooo funny, and a really good role model....im not going to make him seem like a god, because hes only human and of course makes mistakes and occasionally has lapses in judgement and timing, but for the most part, hes the best

4. WACKY WIGS AND MAKEUP!!!!!!........you have not lived until you have to arrive about 2 hours before house opens to cake your face and neck in oily and sticky make up, pincurl your hair, put on your wig cap, pin it to your head, put on your wig, pin THAT to your head (OWW!!!!), then re-do some of your makeup, etc......point is, its the best time you could ever imagine.....add in some music and dancing to soulja boy and its a treat......:)

5. romance!!......whether its on or off stage, theres always at least one couple that emerges from all of the hustle and bustle of making music magic.......between singing and dancing with these 79 other people almost everyday for two months, cast parties and learning how to make a set, its inevitable that love blossoms!!!! so cute!!!! and its not just from musical....follies is also a prime time to start a relationship................ok, i take that back, not exactly a prime time to start something, but it DEFINETLY happens, let me tell you.........

6. "We're in the money" and "its a dime!" and "JOBS!!"........oh boy....i dont think that i need to explain

7. awkwardness.....ok, do you know how embarrassing it is to have to act seductive towards your ex-boyfriend?? or pretend that youre best friends with someone you hate?? yeah...maybe not only awkward, but uncomfortable too.....oh, or the classic "having to flirt with your best friend's boyfriend" gig.....yeah, try explaining that to her when she sees the show......sorry!!!

8. costumes and having to go out on your own to get the perfect costume only to go to the costume director for her to tell you that "thats not exactly the look i think you should be going for...".................WHAT?!?! omg, ok, so maybe i didnt exactly LOVE this part of musical, but its very memorable

9. jesse mooning everyone on stage, but no one in the audiance can see him......omg that was HORRIBLE!!!!! during follies last year, the girls were all on stage doing a serious/sad song and he was in the wings and MOONED US!!!!!! omg....but thank god for amanda, who got him back during the boys number the next night by mooning him!!! haha...revenge!!!! lol

10. cast parties....mafia, music, food, food fights.....lol, dancing, mr. b, slipping on ice and breaking your wrist(yeah, that wouldve been me.....).........theres nothing better than having a fantastic performance and then being able to go out and party with the most fun people around...yeah, take that druggies!! we dont need pot to have fun!

11. ok, now im kind of sick of coming up with things so im going to stop, but im sure that there are more things that i love about theatre.....omg i just thought of one....

12. the feeling, the energy, the excitement everyone feels when you walk out onstage for opening night....theres nothing like it and its the best.....those curtains open and you breathe in thinking "this is what i love and i never want to stop!"

13. finding out that after all of these years, you really CAN act....why didnt anyone tell me this before??? argh....

ok, thats all for now, i guess i better get cracking on that paper.....*sigh* ttyl

just be honest.....

Posted on Jan 3rd, 2008 by Morgan : the friend Morgan
wondering if this has ever happened to you......

you become friends with someone....just friends, mind you.....and soon find out that they expected more than you were willing to give in the relationship......how do you let them down easily??

i think its easier when you dont know the person that well...like, enough to chat with them, but not enough to trust them.....because then theres not that much to lose...i mean, sure you lose someone, but its kind of only an aquaintance....

its so hard when its one of your best friends...best guy friends.....and they are waiting and hoping and wishing for you to love them back....but it could never happen....thank God the only times that this has ever happened to me, we reconciled...like my best friend is a guy...i love him to death....but something happened, im not sure what it was....where he and my bff broke up and then he started liking me but i liked someone he didnt approve of and then we were on bad terms and eventually stopped talking....God obviously has a different plan for us than we wanted because we ended up on the same summer mission trip and working together for a week mended alot of things that needed to be mended......now i cant imagine my life w/o him!!! like. even though during the schoolyear we arent really able to hangout becasue we're so busy, during the summer we're practically inseperable......hes the type of person i could tell anything to....like, i could tell him that his new haircut is ugly and i hate his girlfriend(which i dont, i love her!!!) and he could tell me that i cant sing (so not true) and he hates my boyfriend and we would be fine with that.....

thats the best thing anyone could ever do for a relationship...romantic or non...YOU NEED TO BE HONEST!!!! if you cannot be honest with the people you love most then there is a major problem.....honesty is the best policy....cliche or not and i guess thats the point of my blog today.....

hope everyones new year is off to a great start.....see you tomorrow

xoxo

learn to cope, learn to live

Posted on Dec 17th, 2007 by Morgan : the friend Morgan
there are things in life that set us back a couple days/weeks/months

relationships are draining...old and new...and broken
but in the end, learning to learn from hardships is the best thing that you can do for yourself.
life is tough, thats a fact, but its also true that moping through life is tougher.

i find that its much easier to let go of all your baggage and just LIVE! its hard, true, especially at first, but with each day, things get easier and easier to deal with.

i was falling in love with someone, or so i thought......apparently, my feelings were not returned. actually, it was his feelings that i didnt return in the beginning, then i fell for him, we had some fun times, and i guess it wasnt enough for him......we're better "just as friends" whatever....it is also a fact that boys are stupid lol

no offense, boys, im sure that there are many out there who are considerate and sweet and caring....hopefully someday one of you will capture my heart, or i will catch yours......

i am a strong believer in true love....soul mates, perhaps, but i dont think that they are necessarily the same thing......what do you think? im gonna wait for mine......

xoxo
